Business Studies, B.A.



DESCRIPTION

The Bachelor of Arts Degree, Business Studies major program allows the study of a multidisciplinary Business education that blends basic business education topics from accounting, personal finance, business commutation, entrepreneurship, marketing, information technology, sales, property management, supply chain, and human resources; along with the ability for students to self-select the study of over twenty hours of coursework outside of business topics.

The Business Studies program offers two options to satisfy program, major, and degree requirements: students can select from the On-Campus Track or the Online Track.

The On-Campus Track: Students are able to complete all required courses for the program on-campus with the option to complete some coursework online.

The Online Track: Students are able to complete all required courses for the program fully online with an asynchronous online academic educational experience.

WHAT CAREERS CAN THIS MAJOR PREPARE YOU FOR?

Students graduating with a major in Business Studies can qualify for a wide variety of entry-level positions across many industries and sectors including sales, human resources, event planning, general management, administration leadership and various business positions.

WHAT SKILLS ARE DEVELOPED WITHIN THIS MAJOR?

Skills developed within this major include: Collaboration, Communication Skills, Management, Selling, Public Speaking, Problem-solving and Creative thinking skills.

  1. ENG 100 /ENG 101 - College Writing I  
  2. ENG 102 - College Writing II  
  3. BSM 140 - Business Studies Major Experience  
  4. ACT 221 - Introductory Accounting I  
  5. ECN 202 - Principles of Microeconomics  
  6. IST 203 - Spreadsheet Skills and Applications  
  7. One college level math course to satisfy the CSU Math/Quantitative Literacy

Hours Required for Degree


Minimum hours required for degree: 120

Minimum hours required for major: The Business Studies major requires completion of the following: 
Basic Business Core: 16 credit hours - specific coursework
Practical Business Core: 18 credit hours - specific coursework
Business Studies Major core: 27 credit hours - specific coursework
Flex Core: 24 credit hours - any academic level course from CSU or other institiusutions.

Business Studies On-Campus Track


The Business Studies: On-Campus Track Program: Students are able to complete all required courses for the program on-campus with the option to complete some coursework online. 

On-Campus Track: Business Studies Major Core: 27 credit hours


Focus on specialized business knowledge and skills with an emphasis on individual initiative, teamwork, integrative and critical thinking.

On-Campus Track: Flex Core: 24 credit hours


Focus on self-designed specialization that allows the student to use any academic coursework from levels 100 to 400: However, students must use 3 credit hours/1 course from the Flex Core in order to satisfy the Writing Across the Curriculum or Speaking Across the Curriculum General Education requirements; if the student completes course GAD 250  at CSU. (We have listed below examples of how students can use the Flex Core to enchance their major experience.)

  • Can use any transfer coursework
  • Select any CSU coursework outside of the college of business
  • Select additional coursework offered by the college of business

Business Studies Online Track


The Business Studies: Online Track Program: Students are able to complete all required courses for the program fully online with an asynchronous online academic educational experience.

Online Track: Business Studies Major Core: 27 credit hours

Online Track: Flex Core: 24 credit hours
