Description

We offer a pre-licensure undergraduate nursing program with a range of entry tracks; from the traditional baccalaureate with both day evening/weekend tracks to an accelerated BSN program with both in-person and hybrid online tracks, for those with a bachelor’s degree in another field.

What careers can this major prepare you for?

Nurses today must be prepared to deliver safe, evidence-based care to individuals and communities in a dynamic healthcare environment. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at Cleveland State University provides an integrated curriculum preparing technologically skilled, entry to practice-ready generalist nurses. Through engaged, immersive learning experiences - including lab, simulation-based learning environments, active learning strategies, and community focused clinical practice - graduates develop the ability to lead and respond to the challenges of modern healthcare. Our program equips students to sit for the NLCEX examination needed for RN licensure and diverse professional roles.

What skills are developed within this major?

Students in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program develop a broad range of competencies that prepare them as practice-ready generalist nurses. Core skills include clinical judgment, critical thinking, and evidence-based decision-making to ensure safe, high-quality care. Graduates gain proficiency in health informatics and technology-enhanced care delivery, as well as hands-on experience through simulation-based learning and immersive clinical environments. The curriculum emphasizes interprofessional collaboration, leadership, cultural humility, and communication skills essential for working with diverse populations.

Membership and Accreditation

The School of Nursing is a member of the Council of Baccalaureate and Higher Degree Programs and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.

The professional nursing curriculum is approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
